Overweight people Abdominoplasty may not be appropriate for people with excessive abdominal visceral fat accumulation, those who have uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smokers and those with severe systemic diseases may not be suitable candidates for abdominoplasty.
What Should the Appropriate Timing Be for Abdominoplasty?
In order to be able to have abdominoplasty, a patient has to drop to a weight close to his or her ideal weight. In an overweight person, the desired result cannot be achieved because the abdomen will be convex due to excessive abdominal visceral fat accumulation. It is necessary to wait for at least 1 month after childbirth. If breastfeeding continues after 1 year, this surgical procedure should definitely be postponed until the end of the breastfeeding period.
What Is A Mini Abdominoplasty?
If complaints such as bulge, flabbiness and sagging in the abdomen are localized only under the belly button and if this condition cannot be corrected with liposuction, we prefer mini abdominoplasty. The recovery process of the mini tummy tuck is relatively faster. It leaves a shorter scar and the position of the belly button is not changed. In conjunction with abdominoplasty, we often perform liposuction on the upper part of the abdomen and the waistline to achieve a more effective result.

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. It takes about 2 to 3 hours on average. In this surgical procedure, the poor quality sagging abdominal skin with stretch marks is removed as much as possible, the loose abdominal muscles are tightened, the belly button is moved to its new location, and when necessary, regional excess fat deposits are removed with liposuction. After the operation, patients stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 nights. After 5 to 6 days, daily activities can be performed. Patients wear a corset for a period of 1 month. It is recommended to avoid activities that strain the abdominal region for 1 month. The desired result of the procedure is seen within 3 to 6 months.
Will I Lose Weight After Abdominoplasty?
When you get on the scales after abdominoplasty, you will see a weight loss proportional to the amount of tissue removed. However, the primary purpose of this surgical procedure is not to enable you to lose weight, but to reshape your abdomen and waistline. On the contrary, when abdominoplasty is performed on people, who are close to their ideal weight, more successful results can be achieved.
Does Abdominoplasty Leave a Scar?
Abdominoplasty leaves scars hidden by underwear, which are more noticeable in the early postoperative period. However, 1 year after the operation, the scars look like a cesarean section scar.
