Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Dr. Caner Kaçmaz

The skin of the upper arm loosens and sags due to aging and excessive weight gain and loss. These sagging become noticeable, especially when short-sleeved clothes are worn and when the arms are lifted up.

Treatment Procedures

In cases of mild sagging in the arms, it is possible to tighten the arm with some non-surgical procedures. When sagging is moderate and accompanied by subcutaneous fat accumulation, subcutaneous fat can be removed by liposuction and the skin can be tightened with a corset worn for a certain period of time. However, surgical arm lift is the only treatment option in cases of advanced sagging. Depending on the degree of sagging, lifting procedure can be performed only from the underarm region, or by making an incision along the whole upper arm.

The arm lift procedure takes about 2 to 3 hours. Staying in the hospital overnight is adequate. After 4 to 5 days, daily activities can be performed. It is recommended to wear a corset and avoid activities that can strain the arm for a period of 1 month.

Does Arm Lift Surgery Leave a Scar?

The biggest disadvantage of this surgical procedure is that it leaves considerable scars. Arm lift operations performed only from the underarm leave scars limited to the underarm region. However, arm lift operations performed along the upper arm leave a scar extending from the underarm region to the elbow along the inner side of the upper arm.
