Otoplasty surgery (Prominent Ear Aesthetics)
It is the condition that the auricle is angled outward more than normal. It is a deformity that is present from an early age. Especially since children are ridiculed from time to time by their friends, it can cause psychosocial problems in children with prominent ear deformities. Adult women can extend their hair and partially cover this deformity, but the deformity is more pronounced in men.
What is the Ideal Age for Prominent Ear Correction?
It is recommended that this deformity be corrected before starting school in children. Performing this operation starting from the age of 4, especially before starting school, both prevents the psychosocial trauma that children may experience at school, and it is easier to shape the ear because the ear cartilages have not hardened yet. Apart from this, prominent ear operation can be performed at any age from the age of 4. The ideal age, on the other hand, is 6 years old, when both the ear size is almost equal to the adult size and the level of consciousness is sufficient to perceive this operation.
The prominent ear operation takes an average of 1 hour. By making an incision behind the ear, the auricle is reshaped and the angle of the auricle with the skull is adjusted. When the operation is performed under local anesthesia, no hospitalization is required. If it is performed under general anesthesia, you stay in the hospital for 1 night. Daily activities can be performed within 2-3 days. You can take a bath on the 5th day. It is recommended to use tennis bandage for 3 weeks after the operation.
Is There Any Scar After Prominent Ear Operation?
In prominent ear operation, incisions are made behind the ear. There are scars in the incision area, but since these traces are behind the ear, they are not visible when viewed from the opposite side.
